Sup’Audio: It's become really selective to be an audiologist!

For a long time it was possible to get a degree as an audiologist in only two years instead of three if you already had a degree as an optician. But it’s no longer the case! Now it’s become really selective. It’s hard to get in because there is a competitive entrance examination (concours d'entrée) and there’s a limit to the number of people who can get in.

You could easily pass the written test but where many people fail is the oral, where you have to convince the jury of your reasons for wanting to be an audiologist!

I don’t understand why it’s so selective because there’s not enough audiologists in France, we really need them!

It’s a very scientific subject and you need to be comfortable with maths, physics and biology.

Why does there seem to be a link between opticians and audiologists?

I don’t know, maybe because when your customers become elderly and need glasses there’s a fair chance you can then also sell them a hearing aid!

For sure as an audiologist you will never be out of a job and you will earn a good living!
